When users switch devices or browsers, their bookmarks do not automatically carry over because they are stored locally. Exporting bookmarks creates a backup file of saved sites, and importing that file restores them in another browser or profile. This is the quickest and safest way to transfer bookmarks without manually recreating them. Follow the steps below to complete the process.
Microsoft Edge - Bookmarks
Click on the Bookmark Manager (star with 3 lines) and click on ellipsis menu (...) and then Export favorites and save it somewhere on your machine
- Follow the same steps above but then click Import Favorites instead to upload favorites on a new machine or a different browser
Microsoft Edge - Passwords
Click the ellipsis menu (...) in the top right corner in Edge and then Settings
Next Passwords and autofill and then Microsoft Password Manager
Hit the ellipsis menu (...) and then Export Passwords
You'll be prompted to sign in with your credentials to export the file on to your machine.
- Now you can follow those same steps above but instead of Exporting Passwords you select Import passwords
Google Chrome - Bookmarks
In Chrome, click on the Ellipsis menu (...) then Bookmarks and lists then Bookmark manager
Once inside hit the Ellipsis menu (...) again and hit Export to save your bookmarks or Import to load your bookmarks.
Google Chrome - Passwords
In Chrome, click on the Ellipsis menu (...) then Passwords and autofill and then Google Password Manager
- Once in, click on the Settings page on the far left and then you can download your passwords as an excel file by clicking Export (it will prompt you for your computer pin).
- You can click Import and select a CSV file (like the one you just exported)
